Do I need an NZQA number before registering for the training?
No. Total Access will handle that for you as part of the training.
Do I need to be licensed to operate a vertical or scissor lift?
The 2015 HSWA (Health Safety at Work Act) requires employees to undergo vigorous training on how to use equipment safely at work. While EWP licensing isn’t mandatory, machine operators are legally required to receive the training.
How do I get an EWP license?
EWP licenses are now available online. However, if you’d prefer to receive a physical license, please let our team know.
When does the EWP license expire?
As per Work Safe NZ guidelines on working at elevated mobile platforms, operators need a refresher training every 3 years.
How long will it take to get the EWP license?
EWP training takes a day and trainees receive their access to the online portal within two working days. If they have opted to receive a physical license, please allows between 7-10 working days.
What happens if I fail?
It is very rare but a participant will fail if it is deemed they don’t have the competence to safely operate EWP’s. If this is the case we will we assist such trainees to acquire more experience and then re-assess them when they are ready. The cost to re-sit will be based on the additional training required to safely pass.
Is EWP similar to working at height training?
No. EWP covers the knowledge and safe usage of high/elevated platforms such as scissor lifts, boom lifts, etc. On the other hand, height training encompasses using safety harnesses to prevent falls, installing fall arrest systems and related training required when working at height.
